Huge Levels of Radidation in Fukushima

On Wednesday, a new videoscope of the basement of the crippled reactor 1 at the Fukushima Dai'chi Nuclear power plant showed disturbingly high levels of radiation. Japanese engineers inserted a camera trough the canalization system into the basement. Just above the radioactive waters, the engineers measured an alarming high level of 10300 milisieverts/hours. In this environment, means a Japanese nuclear power plant worker would reach his year limit within 15 to 20 seconds. 20 to 30 minutes would be enough to render a perfectly healthy adult very sick. Symptoms of acute radiation sickness would appear resulting in death by heart or multiple organ failure. Tepco announced yesterday that the other accidented units 2 and 3 don't show such a high level of radiation. Nevertheless over 1 Sievert (1000milisievert/h) have been measured in outside these units. Tepco announced that the demolition and clean up of the crippled reactors might take up to 50 years.

But also 70km away from Fukushima, a study shows high radioactive pollution of children's playgrounds(*) with up to 100 000 BQ/kg, again demonstrating how radiation has spread all over Japan. Samples were taken from Kashiwa and Saga-City playgrounds.

Meanwhile the biggest Japanese Anti-Nuclear and civil protests and demonstrations since the 1960s are rallying up to 200'000people. Protesters showed their anger about the Government's decision to restart nuclear reactors. However the protest is met by a country and region wide media blackout:

Disturbing Tweets from Japan

I have no idea and way of telling if this is the real deal but it sounds, at least to my ears plausible and comparable to what I have seen in the Exclusion Zone around Chernobyl and read about it: So I will repost this without having a 100% proof:

Tweets from Japan: “When we wash their hair, it comes off in a clump — It is really scary”

Decrease in White Blood Cells, Headache, Nausea in a Hospital in Sendai City, Miyagi, EX-SKF, August 12, 2011:

Tweets from a nurse (my very good guess from her tweets) in a large hospital in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture on August 10:
[Translation:]
Increasing number of patients with unexplainable decrease in white blood cells, headache, nausea. They are diagnosed for existing illness and undergo treatment, but they don’t respond to the treatment at all. I’ve seen those cases in my hospital. I’m not saying they are all because of the radiation exposure, but I’m telling you what I’m seeing.
[Translation:]
When we wash their hair, it comes off in a clump. It is really scary. The doctor says, “I really wonder why the white blood cell count is down…” Doctor, don’t be so relaxed about it. There is going to be more and more people who don’t respond to treatment.

Take this 1hr 30min. documentary by the Japanese TV Channel NHK and share it !

Tepco still denies knowing anything about the whereabouts of nearly 200 nuclear liquidators... Most likely their bodies where dumped somewhere around Fukushima Power Plant in waste dumps.

Tokyo Electric's lax worker management found

The operator of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has failed to confirm the whereabouts of 198 workers who are believed to have worked at the plant since the nuclear disaster started.

Criticizing the operator's lax personnel management, the health ministry has instructed Tokyo Electric Power Company to identify the workers and have those workers
checked for radiation exposure tests by next Friday.

In a report submitted to the ministry on Wednesday, the company admits that it has failed so far to confirm the whereabouts of the 198 workers, who are on the name-list of workers at the plant between March and April.

The company also reports that it has conducted radiation exposure tests on 8,338 workers, but still has to test more than 1,500 workers, including the 198.

The utility had reported last Wednesday that the number of missing was 132.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency is also investigating the case because if it is proven that some of these workers were hired by the company without their identities being confirmed, it could constitute a violation of anti-terrorism legislation.

déi jonk gréng: Open Call for Japanese Officials to stick to Kyoto

Dear Honorable Prime Minister Naoto Kan,
Dear Honorable Ambassador to Luxembourg Takashi Suetsuna

We are extremely concerned to hear that at the opening of the UN climate talks in Cancun, Japan announced its intention to abandon the Kyoto Protocol - the only treaty that could tackle growing greenhouse gas emissions by rich countries. This treaty was agreed to in Japan, when your country showed leadership while chairing the third Conference of the Parties under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1997. So We am even more surprised at the announcement. These UN climate talks in Cancun are a critical moment in regaining credibility of the negotiating process. The actions of developed countries are crucially important in rebuilding trust between the negotiating parties. We are concerned that Japan, in taking this position, is failing to recognise its own historical responsibility for the current climate challenge. Even worse, it is undermining the outcome of the talks and seriously threatening the progress needed in Cancun. We urgently call on you to reconsider your position and stop stalling the climate talks. We urge all rich countries, including Japan, to agree to cut your emissions by at least 40 per cent by 2020, without resorting to carbon offsetting, and to commit to this under a second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol. We look forward to your response.

Yours sincerly, with the most deepest and mutual sympathies and utmost respectfulness.
